Hobsonville rose to the occasion this past weekend, capturing the North Harbour 1–5 Year Interclub title with a display of skill and depth. While the weather necessitated a move to the fantastic covered facilities at Bowls Orewa on Sunday, the change in atmosphere only seemed to sharpen the competition.

Voshaar Leads the Way
The weekend belonged to singles specialist Carol Voshaar, who delivered a masterclass performance. Carol remained undefeated throughout the entire tournament, sweeping her qualifying matches on Saturday before going three-for-three in the high-stakes post-section play on Sunday.

In a highly anticipated final against a talented Browns Bay Orange side, Carol showed exceptional form against fellow rising star Simon Battersby, securing a commanding 21–3 victory that set the tone for her club.

A True Team Effort
Hobsonville’s victory was a testament to their collective strength. The triples team—Shane Don, Deanne Bronlund, and John Coogan—put in a stellar shift in the final, defeating a competitive Browns Bay trio 16–6 to help clinch the overall title.

Browns Bay didn’t go down without a fight, however. Their powerhouse pairing of Mark Brown and Lloyd Sinton claimed a hard-fought 18–13 win in the pairs, showcasing the high level of play present in both clubs.

A New Era for North Harbour Bowls
The tournament highlighted an exciting shift in the regional landscape. While traditional powerhouses have long led the way, the “outer” clubs are now firmly established as the teams to beat. The post-section lineup was a testament to successful recruitment and player development across the region:

Bowls Orewa: 3 teams

Hobsonville: 2 teams

Browns Bay: 2 teams

Manly: 1 team

This diversity in the final rounds reflects the incredible work these clubs have put into fostering new talent and building vibrant junior programs.

Looking Ahead
With the regional title secured, Hobsonville now prepares to represent North Harbour at the Northern Regional Tournament in Northland on May 3. On current form, they will be a formidable force as they take their talents to the next level.
