Winter Cup – Orewa Gals Reign Supreme to win Final
After a convincing win in the Semi Final over a strong and gallant Birkenhead side shaking hands with 2 ends to play the Orewa Gals Team of Elaine McClintock , Kerin Roberts, Jenny Daniels and Jan Harrison went on to win the Final of the Women’s Winter Cup yesterday,
In the Final against the Mairangi Bay Kea Team of Sheryl Wellington, Gaye Horne, Jeanette Orgias, and Theresa Rogers, the Orewa Team got off to a quick start leading 8-0 after 3 ends and although Mairangi came back to take the lead at the three quarter stage, Orewa went on to to lead at the final end by two and with two great lead bowls causing Mairangi Bay to attack, Orewa went on to win 24-16. In the format of the game (Bonus Fours) it is so important that the Lead and Two have bowls close to the kitty to pick up those important Bonus Points.
