MESSAGE TO ALL CLUBS FROM BOWLS NORTH HARBOUR

  • April 17, 2020

Covid-19 – Much has been written and televised on the current situation and we do hope all our bowlers in North Harbour are keeping safe and well. Meanwhile planning is continuing for the remainder of this season and the next, in the expectation the current lockdown will be eased over the coming weeks.

2020 National Inter-Centre and 2020 National Interclub Sevens – Both of these events have been cancelled by Bowls New Zealand (BNZ) so will not be held this season.

2020 Bowls3five Open and Junior – The national finals for these events has now been scheduled by BNZ for 1 & 2 August. The venue has not been confirmed. On that basis BNH has now scheduled the Centre and Regional finals to be held on the 28 June under cover at Orewa. This will be confirmed to the clubs involved as soon as arrangements are completed.

2019-20 Champ of Champ Events – News has been received from BNZ that they have cancelled the Champ of Champ national finals for this season. The BNH Board have considered this decision and in their wisdom have decided to continue to schedule the Champ of Champ events for the Centre, in that they do have trophies associated and centre titles. It is an opportunity to return to some form of organised play after months without. These events will now be scheduled for July in the hope they can proceed at that time.

Further details of the dates will be included in the Centre programme 2020-2021. Please continue to forward your entries for these events and make payment as well.

Annual General Meeting and Awards Function – This event has been scheduled for Sunday 21 June. The Board has considered the ability to proceed to have them on this date. Taking into account the current situation in relation to Covid-19, the constitutional requirement to hold the annual meeting prior to the 30 June and the Champ of Champ events now scheduled for July, the Board has decided to split the proposed date for the two events.

At this point we are continuing to schedule the annual meeting for 21 June. Formal notice of the meeting and the calling of nominations and any notices of motion will be sent to clubs shortly. Whether the meeting can proceed on that date and the form it might take will be advised in due course.

With the Champ of Champ events now scheduled for July, and not knowing how long lockdown will disrupt businesses to have certificates printed and trophies engraved, the awards function has been delayed and will now be scheduled for Sunday 16 August. Further information will be advised in due course.

Centre Programme 2020-2021 – This has now been completed as far as we can go and has been distributed to clubs. Decisions around the placement of events was sent with the calendar.

Future Centre Events – The next event on the calendar is the Winter Cup scheduled for the Fridays in July 2020. At this stage the event will be continuing and clubs should plan for it taking place as scheduled.

The BNH NZ Masters event – which was successfully hosted this year, has been confirmed for next season on 15-19 February, 2021. The event will again be headquartered at Birkenhead BC.

2021 National events – BNZ has awarded the hosting rights for the singles/pairs events to North Harbour and Auckland from 2-8 January 2021. Further details on the hosting of these events are awaited from BNZ.

The national fours & mixed pairs (new event) will be allocated to the lower South Island, the national Inter-Centre will be in Wellington and the national Interclub Sevens will be hosted by Canterbury.
