Message from the Board

From the Board.

We welcomed Wayne Wrack to the BNH Board this year. He has vast experience in our game as a top ranked player, a greenkeeper, and Board member. Additionally Wayne is involved with our Open Men’s squad as Assistant Coach to Ross Haresnape.

Our Centre offices are moving to Bowls Orewa within the next three months. Given the new proposals at Browns Bay with their exciting Hub project, it was the opportune time to make the move and lockup a long term arrangement for the Centre.

Exciting times are ahead at Orewa as well with their covered roof project getting very close to a reality.

We have met with Mark Cameron, the CEO of Bowls NZ on a number of occasions since he took up his role in June.

Mark has a clear vision for where our sport needs to go.  It will be an exciting few months to see what a fresh perspective on our sport will bring.

The weather has been unkind for most of our early season Centre events but it has not dampened the enthusiasm of players.

Our Centre fours had increased numbers this season and the mixed pairs and IK Singles were very well supported as well.

Our rep teams (Open, 1-8, 1-5) have had games with Taranaki, Northland and Auckland and are well into their preparation for the major events in March.

Denise Samuel our Coaching Director and Sheryl ran a brilliant junior winter coaching programme over ten weeks in June-August.

Attendances at some sessions exceeded 70 players and the results of these sessions are very evident when looking at the interclub results and team makeup from clubs. Juniors figure very much in the mix.

Whatever your level of play, competitive, recreational, or club only, we wish you a great season.

Graham
