  • July 9, 2020

Takapuna has lost one of its greatest stalwarts with the death of John Angus.

Angus, who fought a long battle against Alzheimer’s disease, was aged 89.  From a sporting background in tennis and squash, John Angus joined the Takapuna club in 1984 and soon became a prominent member, both as a player and administrator.

He won a centre junior title in the 1987-88 season when he was in a four which won the one to five champion of championships event and in 1993 and 1994 he won Takapuna’s open fours championships.

He was involved in many executive roles within the club, serving two terms as president in 1995 and again in 2005 and acting as the club secretary in 1999-2004. He was made a life member in 2010.
