Coronavirus/COVID-19 – Update from BNZ and BNH Tournaments going forward

  • March 18, 2020

To all clubs in Bowls North Harbour,

Today Bowls New Zealand has issued a further update for the guidance of Centres and Clubs.  The significant update is

“As of Wednesday, 18-March, Bowls New Zealand strongly recommends that (until further notice) all bowls events throughout the country be limited to 50 persons (or less) per club event.”

Full details can be found on this link – https://bowlsnewzealand.co.nz/news/coronavirus-covid-19-update-18-03-20/

The effect of the recommendation from Bowls New Zealand for this Centre is that –

1 The Cadness Cup event being played at the Hobsonville club venue will be postponed until further notice. At this event, which is being played at one venue, we have 96 players plus other officials in attendance, and this number is well in excess of the guidelines issued by Bowls NZ.

2 The National Interclub Sevens Finals for which Orewa and Birkenhead have qualified as the Bowls North Harbour representatives has been postponed for six months, minimum.

3 The Bowls3five Open and the Bowls3five Junior Interclub finals being hosted by the Takapuna club on Thursday 26 March will continue to be played that evening. There are 24 players involved and we expect that the Takapuna club in hosting the event will use discretion on the number of visitors attending in accordance with the Bowls New Zealand recommendation.

4 The regional playoff for the Bowls3five Open and Bowls3five Junior interclub being hosted by Warkworth club on Friday 27 March will proceed as normal. The national finals have been postponed, at this stage, to 20-21 June 2020.

5 The Centre events for the Men’s singles and the Women’s triples scheduled for 28 and 29 March will proceed as no venue has more than 50 players/officials.

6 The Champ of Champ events will all proceed at this stage and entries should be lodged by due date with the Secretary as normal.

As you are well aware these are challenging times for all of us to remain vigilant and to follow the guidelines being provided from the top down.
