Browns Bay and Riverhead, both with powerful combinations, will play off at the Takapuna club next Thursday evening in the final of North Harbour’s 3-5 competition.

In the twilight semi-finals at Takapuna Browns Bay beat Birkenhead and Riverhead overcame Orewa.

Both margins were by two games to one and as a reflection of the close, intense nature of all the six matches four were decided by tie-breaks, after the sets were squared.

Browns Bay still had s strong line-up even though work commitments meant the Black Jack Tony Grantham could not take his place. But in Scott Cottrell, Scott Evans, Adam Haywood and the veteran Dave McMurchy it was still well served.

Riverhead was also stacked with talent with the likes of Steve Cox, Grant Goodwin and Dwayne McDonald.

The talent in each side should ensure an absorbing final, which will start around 6pm.
