Auckland bowlers dominated when the finals of North Harbour’s Open two-four-two pairs tournament were held at the Orewa club on Sunday.

In the main event Bridge Park’s Phil Taylor and Teo Turua beat the more experienced and more fancied Royal Oak pair of former Black Jack Danny Delany and Joe Whitelaw 11-9.

Taylor and Turua won $400 for their effort, with Delany and Whitelaw taking $200 for second.

The best performed Harbour bowlers were the beaten semi-finalists, former Black Jack Tony Grantham and his Browns Bay partner Scott Mouton and Takapuna’s Bevan Smith and Bob Telfer, the latter still being a one-to-five year player.

Riverhead’s Steve Cox and Birkenhead’s Trish Croot won the plate final from Orewa’s David Eades and Wendy Jensen and Milford’s Ian McKenzie and junior Lyn Calver did well to make the flight final.

The tournament was an overall success, with 80 entries.
