BNH Women’s Singles and Men’s Pairs Championships – 7 & 8 November 2026

November 8, 2026

Two marquee events took over the BNH calendar this weekend—the Women’s Centre Singles and the Men’s Centre Pairs—both showcasing the incredible depth of talent in our region

Women’s Centre Singles

Featuring elite discipline, precision draw bowling, and tactical awareness, the two-day event presented the absolute best of local women’s bowls. Under mixed weather conditions and competitive pressure, the field narrowed down from qualifying pools into a masterclass knockout format on Sunday afternoon.

Day 1: Qualifying Rounds (Saturday, 7 November)

The championship opened with a high level of energy as players settled into the pace of the greens. Singles competition not only tested playing ability but also mental toughness, with competitors required to navigate the tactical side of the game themselves, often relying on the support of a designated marker to assist with decision-making.

  • Notable highlights from the morning sessions included dominant qualifying campaigns from top regional contenders representing powerhouse clubs like Mairangi Bay, Takapuna, and Birkenhead.
  • Consistent draw-shot percentages proved to be the differentiator on Day 1, with several closely contested matches decided by the final end of play.

Day 2: Post-Section Knockouts & Finals (Sunday, 8 November)

Only the top-performing qualifiers advanced to Sunday’s sudden-death format. The quarter-finals threw up excellent match-ups, emphasizing strategic shot-making and weight control.

  • The semi-finals brought together four formidable contenders. Jeanine Browne of Riverhead faced a tough challenge from Leeane Poulson – Takapuna, while fellow Takapuna player Keiko Kurohara went head-to-head with Connie Mathieson from Birkenhead in the other semi-final.
  • The Championship Match: The final was a masterclass in concentration and skill, with the early ends going shot-for-shot before the champion pulled away with consecutive multi-shot ends. Ultimately, Leeane Poulson displayed the immense composure needed to claim the title, against Keiko Kurohara securing her place in Bowls North Harbour history. Final score Leeane 21 – Keiko 14.

Bowls North Harbour Men’s Pairs Championship 2026

This tournament took place under the newly updated BNH General Conditions of Play, which streamline local rules to align logically with surrounding regional centres. Coming hot on the heels of the successful NZ Masters held in October—which saw prominent veterans like Colin Rogan and John Walker taking titles—players will be looking to capitalise on peak early-season form.

The championship attracted a strong field, with players demonstrating exceptional skill, strategic thinking, and consistency throughout the various stages of competition. As always, the pairs format tested not only individual ability but also the strength of partnerships, communication, and teamwork under pressure.

Competitors faced tough challenges throughout the opening rounds, with a number of matches remaining in the balance until the closing ends. As the tournament unfolded, the standard continued to improve, highlighting the players’ precision, and shot-making ability in a display of outstanding bowls.

With the competition moving to Milford Bowling Club for Sunday’s finals, competitors faced a stern test of skill and resilience. Composure under pressure, sound tactics, and adjusting to the green speed throughout an intensive two-day event proved crucial in deciding the ultimate champions.

This year’s Men’s Pairs Championship perfectly highlighted the high calibre of bowls in the North Harbour region. Thank you to everyone who made it a memorable event, and we look forward to seeing you all back next season to compete for the Centre titles.

A huge well done to all participants for their efforts and sportsmanship in both the Women’s Singles & the Men’s Pairs – Special congratulations to our winners and runners-up on their well-deserved success.  BNH also extend their sincere appreciation to the host clubs and volunteers who turn up, lend a hand, and help make these events a success for everyone’s enjoyment.
